Experience another world as you kayak through this amber creek under a canopy of Live Oak and Red Maples as  you discover the Maritime Forest- one of only eight in the world.  While paddling you might see wildlife such as turtles, snakes, as well as birds such as: herons, egrets, woodpeckers, kingfishers and ducks. Wildlife Refuge (Pea Island and Alligator River)

Alligator River Kayak Tour

Take a step back in time as you paddle through Alligator National Wildlife Refuge, the northern most home of the American alligator. Come with us and explore the red waters and 'living fossils' of the cypress swamp. You may catch a glimpse of some of the elusive wildlife that lives in the refuge as well as some of the relics from another time. Not only will you hear tales of the logging settlers of Buffalo City, you'll also learn about the history behind one of prohibition's biggest moonshine capitals.

Hatteras Island

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Kayak Tour

Kayak along the peaceful salt marshes of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Pea Island, commonly referred to as a birder's paradise, is home to over 265 different bird species. Search for ospreys, herons, egrets, ibis, terns, pelicans, rails, skimmers, wrens and warbles that take refuge on the Outer Banks. Follow your kayak guide in and out of several shallow coves and canals, where the birds feed and seek refuge. With the mainland just out of sight over the horizon, this is one of the few places on the east coast to kayak and watch the sun set right over the water.

Roanoke Island & Lost Colony Tour

Bodie Island Bioluminescence Tour

Paddle through the sound at night on a search for bioluminescence, the microscopic marine creatures that produce a glowing light in the water. The rest of the tour is spent paddling around the marshes by the light of the moon.

Specialty Kayak Activities

Ocean Kayak Tour

Join us on one of our new kayak ocean tours. We launch right from the beach in Kitty Hawk and paddle out into the ocean looking for dolphins and schools of fish. Paddling the ocean provides a unique perspective with views of the open Atlantic to the east and the beaches of Kitty Hawk to the west. We outfit paddlers with unsinkable, sit on top kayaks that preform better in the open ocean environment.

Minimum age of 13.
We recommend paddling experience.

Ocean Kayak Lesson

We offer private and group surf kayak lessons for people who want to learn how to surf kayak, or as we call it, sedentary shredding. Helmets, life jackets, surf kayaks and paddles provided. The instructor will enlighten you on the dynamic ocean environment, paddling techniques, judging and catching waves and paddle bracing.

Your instructor knows the best sand bars for beginner and intermediate surf kayaking.

Minimum age of 13.

ACA Quick Start Class

An American Canoe Association (ACA) Quick Start Class will more thoroughly teach paddling, safety, kayak care and navigation. Rescues, towing, gear, trip planning and kayak-touring specific problems are also discussed. This is a four hour tour made by appointment only for someone who is more serious about paddling in the future, and who would like to do some of their own touring safely and well-prepared. This course follows the curriculum of the ACA and is given by an ACA-certified instructor.
