Never SUPed? try our hour long beginner SUP lesson. After 15 minutes of instruction and orientation to the area, we will paddle the salt marsh waterways between Martin’s Point and Southern Shores. This is THE BEST locale for beginners and to get on the water on windy days because of the shelter provided by Live Oaks and Loblolly Pine trees insuring smooth waters. Lessons begin with the anatomy of a SUP and its terminology. Next, paddling techniques, balance and foot positioning are discussed. Participants then practice popping up onto the SUP on the beach before getting wet. Safety protocols for the group are discussed and the remainder of the lesson is spent on the water SUPing.

Learn the fundamentals of surfing. We discuss the importance of ocean safety, how to identify rip currents, and how to read ocean conditions. We warm up with some surf specific stretches. Then we practice standing up on the board on the beach before we get in the water. After that it's into the ocean to learn how to paddle properly and catch your first wave. There is over an hour of hands on practice in the water. Surfboard and leash are provided.
