Fly a reproduction of the Wright Brother’s 1902 Glider! This replica was built by the Wright Experience and is one of a few in existence. The 1902 Wright Glider replica is museum quality and allows participants to experience exactly what the Wright Brothers felt as they prepared for their historic flight of the first powered plane in 1903. A normal flight will be around five to fifteen feet off the ground and you will fly about fifty yards. Be one of the few in the world to ever fly this glider!

1902 Wright Glider Lessons & Open Clinics

1902 Wright Glider 5-Flight Experience

A normal flight will be and 5-15 ft off the ground and fly about 50 yards in distance. Recommended wind conditions for a lesson are 15-25 mph Flights will be tethered, and the lesson will also include:
*groundshool with simulator time
*glider orientation (controls & historical information)
* 5 tethered flights
*Wright Flight Certificate

Lessons may last up to 4 hours long and include as many as 5 students

Location: Jockey's Ridge State Park, Nags Head
the lesson will be scheduled for a specific time & date, but participants should be flexible in order to utilize the Glider during optimal conditions

This location is actually the site dedicated to commemorating the historic soaring record, which Orville set in October 1911 of 9 minutes 45 seconds. Join Kitty Hawk Kites for an hour long presentation about the design, story and historical significance of the 1902 Glider’s part in the amazing story of the Wright Brothers triumph at Kitty Hawk. You will not only learn an incredible history of perseverance, tenacity and ingenuity, but you will also get to literally look and feel the aircraft in your very own hands at one of the very locations where the Brothers flew more than 100 years ago.
