Hang Gliding

Kitty Hawk Kites is the oldest and largest hang gliding school in the world, teaching since 1974. Choose from tandem discovery lessons and dune hang gliding lessons where you'll learn to fly solo on your first day!

Dune Hang Gliding Lessons at Jockey's Ridge State Park are available all year.

Tandem Discovery Hang Gliding is available consistently May through September and on a limited basis April and October.

Learning to become a Hang Gliding pilot is one of the most rewarding experiences, and Jockey's Ridge State Park is one of the most versatile training facilities in the world for "Beginner" Free Flight pilots.

Beginner Hang Gliding Lesson

Learn about hang gliding in a 45 minute Ground School program and then take 5 training flights in your first lesson! The soft sand dunes of Jockey's Ridge State Park and consistent, clean winds of the Outer Banks offer the perfect training facility for introductory lessons virtually all year long.

Ages 4 years old and up can fly!
(please call if any participants are under 75 lbs or over 225 lbs)$149 per person

Kids Beginner Hang Gliding Lesson

Kid's Dune Lesson is designed for students that are 13 years and under or weigh less than 100 lbs.


Participants should be no younger than 4 years old.$149 per person
